2008 marks the tenth anniversary of CONCORA's Summer Festival, a week-long choral workshop of rehearsals and learning opportunities that culminates in a public performance. The workshop, which this year runs from July 20 to July 26, is open to adult singers with choral experience and to qualified high school and college singers who are recommended by their teachers.
This year's festival, "The Contemporary Choral Song," focuses on great choral music of 20th century composers, and includes works by Aaron Copland, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Randall Thompson, and others, including new music by gifted New England composer Gwyneth Walker.
I have sung in this workshop for three years, and I recommend it for any choral music lover. It's a great opportunity to meet new singers and enjoy choral singing under the direction of a truly gifted director. Anyone who has enjoyed working under Rick Coffey's direction will want to be part of this festival, and for those who have not had the pleasure of that experience, now's your chance. Applications will be accepted until May 15.
Young singers are especially encouraged to apply, and scholarships are available for qualified students.
More information on the Festival is available by calling the CONCORA office at 860-293-0567.
